The Roman Family
The head of the Roman family was the father and he had absolute command over the rest of the family and second was his wife. Next came the sons and daughters and then if the family was rich, slaves. The wealthiest families could have hundreds of slaves for different purposes, but the poorer families most of the time couldn't afford one.
The father had many responsibilities and had the power to do whatever he wished to his family. He could punish family members at will ,educate his children and also force marriage. Marriage was often conducted at a very early age (12-16) and the father would search for a rich and important partner for his child to gain money and influence. When a daughter was married she fell into control of the father of her husband's family.
