Architecture
Rome is famous for it's architecture. You would have heard of the colosseum (The Gladiatorial stadium), the Pantheon and Roman aqueducts. Rome was the forefront of building as columns and arches gave their buildings more support. Because of this the Romans were able to build on a scale never before seen, as they were able to hold more weight. One of the innovations made because of this was the Pantheon, the worlds largest dome at the time, dedicated to the gods, using concrete, and arches to hold the massive structure together.
Something else that gave the Romans more advanced infrastructure was the use of cement in building letting the buildings to be more ornate and complex than would be possible with the use of just brick. City walls were massive and strong and helped defend cities, while aqueducts looped for hundreds of kilometres to
bring water to the inhabitants of Rome

Houses
The houses of the poor were usually massive cramped blocks of flats, catering for hundreds of people in filthy conditions. The flats were very dangerous as they were prone to fire and partial collapse due to poorly made buildings. The houses of the poor who lived in the country however lived In comfortable and simple houses, and usually worked on farms.
The rich lived in much better houses and usually in richer and safer parts of the city, the average rich persons houses had similar layouts. They included:
The Front entrance
The Atrium (an open area with a pool to collect rain water)
Bedrooms
Offices
Kitchen
Garden
Dining Room
Shrine and fire place
Slaves quarters
When richer people become older, if they can afford it, retire to a country estate away from the city.
